This weekend (16 to 18 May 2014), the 18 clubs in the 1st German Sailing League will kick off their season on Lake Starnberg at the Bayerischer Yacht-Club. Four female Olympic sailors and one male Olympic sailor have announced their participation on behalf of their clubs. As in 2013, helmswoman Stefanie Rothweiler (two-time Olympic participant in the 470) will be racing for the Württembergischer Yacht-Club and vice-champion, while Ulrike Schümann (Olympic fourth in the Yngling) will be there for the Seglerhaus am Wannsee club. Kristin Wagner (Olympic sixth in the Yngling) and Patrick Follmann (Olympic participant in the 470) from the German Touring Yacht Club complete the Olympic quartet. A total of 72 athletes, four from each club, are taking part.
One of the most important innovations compared to last year is the live broadcast of the six regattas of the 1st Bundesliga on the internet at www.segelbundesliga.de. The live commentary will be provided by expert Markus Koy, professional sailor and multiple European champion in the Star boat on Lake Starnberg. In addition to the live stream, viewers at home and the teams will also have the opportunity to analyse the races after the races using GPS tracking.
